5 Criteria for an Effective & Sustainable Lifestyle Change Plan

weight loss

It's not new news! 🤷‍♀️ Releasing weight, and especially keeping it off is not easy. 🤔

The data says 95% of dieters, gain the weight back within 2 years. 😕

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

It’s not that people don’t care, or don’t try.

In fact, the clients I work with have tried EVERY diet in the book, on an app & on the internet.

But the program/plan is only 1 part of the system to success.

See, there are several factors that determine our success in anything in life, including weight loss.

👉 The what:

What do I do?

👉 The how:

How do I do it?

👉 The why:

The what & how are important, but why do you want to go on this journey now?

Most programs are focused on short term results, so they merely stay at the what & the how level. Yes, the weight comes off at first, but the plan isn’t sustainable so the weight comes back on. 😕

OR

The plan wasn’t focused on health at all, utilizing gimmicks, extremes & miserable restrictions. The body will struggle to release weight if it’s not in a healthy state. 🙄

To know if a lifestyle change plan will be effective and sustainable, it must meet these criteria:

weight loss

💚 Health focused - an unhealthy body will not want to release weight.

💚 Simple - complexity is the enemy of execution.

If a plan focuses on:

👉 Extreme calorie deficit

👉 Eliminating entire food groups for success

👉 Specialty products & foods that promise success but are made with a laundry list of ingredients you can't pronounce

👉 Makes it mandatory to perform hours of cardio

👉 Activity that you absolutely hate to do

...it's not really focused on whole health & it is not sustainable!

💚 Effective - It’s hard to be motivated to stick to anything if we don't notice non-scale +/or scale victories right off the bat!

💚 Flexible - We can't be expected to hide our faces when it's our turn to order at the restaurant. The plan needs to be flexible enough for our social lifestyle.

💚 Adaptable -. Cooking completely different foods for ourselves and the rest of the family is an absurd thing to expect to last any meaningful amount of time.

If you've tried programs in the past that were restrictive, miserable, costly & had you ready to quit just a few days in, what do you do now?

Most women have tried so many programs that they no longer believe they can release any weight at all & they feel they'll never reach any of their health & wellness goals.

They no longer believe anything will work for them. And they no longer believe in themselves!

Then frustration sets in. Is there a consequence of this belief long-term?

That belief will lead to being stuck, and not trying anything else due to a fear of failing (a big one).

What's the option then?

Accept being unhealthy for life? 🤦‍♀️ Way too many accept this reality, throw in the towel & feel miserable as their health continues to deteriorate. It's not just weight gain, but it's feeling lethargic, lacking mental clarity, being irritable, sleeping poorly and much more.

BUT, it doesn't have to be that way.

Baby steps, small changes and consistency - along with a program that is HEALTH-FOCUSED, SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE, FLEXIBLE & ADAPTABLE - are what you need to overcome this diet-culture-cycle!

And I can tell you from experience…

I’ve worked with sooooooo many women, who’ve tried it all before working with me, and are now making lifestyle changes that will last a lifetime & win over willpower. 🙌

So, in my experience, it can be done, no matter the past yo-yo diets you’ve done, your current level of physical activity, your age, your current weight, etc.

👉 What are the effects of shifting into true lifestyle change versus short-term strategies?

Are we more likely to make the best decisions when we’re feeling confident, joyful and grateful… full of energy, greater mental clarity, in a good mood & rested?

…or exhausted, depleted, frustrated and defeated?

👉 When we are consistently feeling confident, energetic, healthy and like our true selves, and have the belief that we can do anything, we will always find a way, and follow through.

It’s when we allow our state to be low and our beliefs to control our lives, that we succumb to bad behaviors and sabotage.

How do we consistently stay in a powerful state?

It comes down to investing in ourselves, to be the best person we can.
